The
"natural appearance" of surfaces’ finishes is always an interesting
topic, especially when it concerns wood. The presence on the market of many
imitation products has pushed some companies to search a way to improve the
"natural appearance” without giving up the high performance protection conferred
by traditional products - the coatings - applied through industrial processes. These
factors have led to a drastic reduction in the local production of wooden
floors, a real Italian excellence. If you add that people usually do not know
the characteristics of natural materials, we understand why we can speak of
production losses by double-digit percentages. We spoke with Roberto Ballardini,
entrepreneur of Original Parquet, a company located in Alfonsine in the
province of Ravenna, who is justly proud of how its company treats raw
materials.
“We process
wood through a six phase cycle - tells us Roberto Ballardini - in order to give
the wood an excellent resistance and zero maintenance. Water and soap are
enough to clean the wood and, if you wish, once a year you can apply a wood
nutrition product. It’s been ten years since I began using this kind of coating
cycle, because I believe that wooden floors’ treatment with natural oils is
outdated. We developed together with the ICA company laboratories a seven
phases cycle which, thanks to the application through our plants, gives
excellent performances while keeping what we call a "natural" effect.
In addition to "neutral" we can give up to four different coating
colours, although the market’s favourite is natural oak. However, we won’t stop
here: always with ICA Company, we are testing how to apply a coating product
that prevents the proliferation of bacteria on the surface of the floor. This
would be the ideal in environments where children live. A “healthy” added value
we want to offer to our customers. "
