Interview with Fermin Vazquez, owner of  studio B720 in Barcelona, author of the Spain’s Pavilion in Milan Expo 2015

Tradition and innovation in Spain pavillion at Expo Milano

Spain pavilion at Expo Milano 2015 is a big envelope consisting of two aisles symbolising iberian country tradition and innovation. The idea of B720 firm in Barcelona, headed by Fermín Vásquez, sustained by the accurate selection of materials was aimed to clearly transmit Spain two souls, with simple drawing easy for everyone to read. It’s an ephemeral and experimental building, as required by the competition notice called by Acción Cultural Española public entity, won by the catalan firm.

D - About metallic surfaces, they have a particular aspect almost “liquid”.

FV - Actually we studied so much the different samplings because the project required not only specific colours, red (of wine), yellow (of oil) and green, but the surfaces had to recall, in terms of chromatic impact and texture, the physical sensation of liquids. These colours are obtained by a metallised powder product (by Adapta Color, ed) that maintain an aesthetic aspect that reminds exactly the liquid, the wine in a glass, the oil in a bottle.
